Michael's Blog: October

We live in a world of contrasts. Peace and war; drought and deluge; beauty and devastation; togetherness and loneliness; feast and famine just to name a few. Another is quietness and loudness or busyness. I write this is a moment of quiet, on a quaint little beach in the Victoria area.

This is the view at my feet. And a quiet moment, on a glorious fall afternoon, to take the opportunity to consider the blessings that I'm thankful for and to whom I'm thankful.

I've written about taking quiet time before and surely will do so again. Why? Because I'm not very good at setting aside reflective quiet time. This one arose by accident - while out walking our second son and daughter in law's beautiful German Shepherd. While Lesley went on, I stopped here to rest a still throbbing toe that Friday night that unglamoursaly met a piece of furniture in the dark! May I encourage you to seek a few moments of quiet time today – perhaps if you’re driving somewhere, leave the radio or podcast off. Of if you are out for a walk, stop and enjoy the fall colours. Just be with yourself.

I hope you had a wonderful Canadian Thanksgiving. Next month I'll be joining American friends for their thanksgiving and in between Lesley and are going to have our first trip to Newfoundland, an experience we are keenly looking forward to!
